Preimplantation genetic diagnosis, or PGD, is a type of procedure in which embryos are inherited and genetically tested. This process allows the development of a large number of embryos after the couples' treatments and the selection of high quality embryos by evaluating the few cells taken.
How is pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) applied?
How is pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) applied?1 or 2 tissue samples are taken from the embryos created by fertilisation of the egg and sperm. Before transfer, it is checked for familial and chromosomal disorders and this process does not harm your embryos. The results of the test are obtained after about 6-12 hours and healthy embryos are reported. A healthy embryo is then transferred to the expectant mother. Even if couples with genetic and chromosomal disorders do not have infertility problems, they can have healthy babies with pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, which is used on embryos obtained as a result of IVF treatment.
