The fast freezing technique is called vitrification. In the slow freezing technique, ice crystals gradually form around the cell, whereas in the vitrification technique, the sudden drop in temperature with highly concentrated freezing solutions attempts to protect them by forming a solid glass surface around the cell.In the vitrification technique, cells are passed through a highly frozen solution and placed in carriers named and coded with a small volume on the microscope and immersed in liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees. It is then discharged into the storage tank.
What are the advantages of vitrification technology?
Since the vitrification technique does not use any tools, there are no additional maintenance costs. In this case, it is a cheaper technique than the slow freezing method. Since it is a fast technique, external factors that can negatively affect the viability of the cells are minimised.
